Amit Kumar Choubey, Founder and CEO of Sanmat, is redefining the landscape of social development in India through community empowerment. His visionary leadership has fostered social change and impacted over 10 million lives across Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, and West Bengal — driving sustainable development and inclusive growth.
Born in Nawada-Govindganj, Bihar, Amit’s early years in under-resourced government schools shaped his empathy for marginalized communities and fueled his passion for community empowerment. With global training from the University of Sussex and the National University of Singapore, he blends local realities with global insights to craft scalable social solutions that drive social change and promote sustainable development.

Founded in Chennai in 2007, Sanmat embodies Amit’s mission to promote sustainable development and community empowerment through people-centered initiatives. Today, Sanmat is a trusted non-profit organization leading programs in healthcare, education, livelihoods, social forestry, and skill development, driving social change and progress in some of India’s most underserved regions.
Under Amit’s leadership, Sanmat executed MNREGA social forestry work across 1,560 Gram Panchayats, planting 15 crore trees and generating 1.5 million rural jobs, driving community empowerment and fostering social change. His “Greening of Highways” initiative not only supported 20,000 families but also nurtured 300 agro-entrepreneurs, linking sustainable development with livelihoods.

Through Sanmat’s Post-Matric Scholarship Initiative, over 100,000 Dalit students have accessed quality education and skill training, fostering community empowerment. Recognized by the Department of SC & ST Welfare, these programs are instrumental in promoting social change and equitable opportunities, breaking cycles of poverty through education and leadership, and contributing to sustainable development.
As President of the Bihar Social Entrepreneurs Association, Amit mentors over 4,500 young innovators, driving community empowerment through rural enterprise, technology adoption, and community-led solutions. His commitment to social change is evident in his work on digital inclusion, community radio, and disaster resilience, which embodies a forward-thinking model of sustainable development and grassroots transformation.

Amit’s contributions extend to academia and innovation — with patents in data acquisition and environmental engineering, alongside 27+ research papers published in international journals on technology, governance, and sustainable development. His work not only fosters community empowerment but also continues to influence public policy and drive social change and digital transformation across India.
